Hands-On Fly Rod Demo Day & Sale

On Saturday, April 18, in place of our April meeting, we are having a hands-on day where you can cast various types of fly rods. We will also have used fly rods and other gear for sale. Come join us, rain or shine!

Have you thought about purchasing a new fly rod but dread the idea of going from fly shop to fly shop trying to find the perfect rod? Are you curious about the difference between a slow rod and a fast rod, or a rod that has lots of power versus one that is delicate? What's the difference between bamboo, graphite, and fiberglass? There are so many options out there. We thought it would be fun to have an event where you can come to one place and try out a wide range of rods!

We will have a broad assortment of fly rods set up to cast. We have different manufacturers, and different weights you can cast—from a 2 weight for brook trout, up to a 9 weight for salmon. Maybe trying different rods back-to-back can help you decide what is right for you.

Gently-Used Gear for Sale

If you are just getting started or hunting for something different and don't want to spend mega-bucks, we will also offer gently used fly rods and conventional spinning gear for purchase. We will also have all sorts of flies and spinning lures that have been donated to the chapter for sale, as well as an abundance of deeply discounted fly tying materials.

If you have gently used gear that you would like to sell—be it vests, packs, rods, reels, or any other items related to fly fishing, bring it out and place your price on it. If you do bring something to sell, SVTU requests a donation of 25% of the selling price (you are welcome to negotiate with buyers) for providing the opportunity to move your gear. If you bring something to sell, you are responsible for those items. Any personal items left at the end of the day will be discarded.

All proceeds going to SVTU will be used to support chapter activities such as compensating speakers, supporting our fly tying and Fly Fishing 101 classes.

Cash or checks would be preferred. We do not have a point-of-sale device, but you can use the SVTU "donate" button. We will have a QR code available for quick access to the donate button.
