Dr. Charles August
On September 16, 2016, SVTU lost a long-time member, active supporter, and friend, Doctor Charles August. Charles not only served as the Chapter Secretary for many years, he was also the one who started, and led, the popular fly tying courses for the past five years.
With respect to his love of fly fishing, if there was one thing he enjoyed as much as the fishing itself, it was the fly tying and teaching. Charles particularly enjoyed teaching the beginning fly tyers. He also was quick to volunteer to help with other the Chapter activities such as stream cleanups, stream restorations, Izaak Walton League events and Project Healing Waters events.
Over the years he fished with a number of SVTU members and managed to fly fish for many species of fish in many different places including the U.S. West, Florida, the Bahamas; as well as all the local Maryland and Pennsylvania trout streams. He always took his camera along to capture the beautiful surroundings but most importantly to photograph the fish he and others managed to catch and release.
His SVTU fishing buddies will truly miss him.
